:: underage mental illness sufferers speaking out

This is a community directed to those under 18 who suffer from any kind of mental illness. It was born from the disappointment that most communities offering support for mentally ill people are exclusive for those above 18 years of age. Being young does not make us immune to mental illness.

Maintained by confrontation and carameldusk, this community aims to offer support to anyone needing it and the both of us will try our best to understand and perhaps help.

We are both fucked up, we know, but we still want to help those of you in the same boat as we are in. With experience comes understanding and empathy. We are not professionals as we are also below the age of 18, but we are mature enough to know that dissing mentally-ill people as simply 'emo' or 'insane' hurts. We have been through it, we want to help you.

Feel free to make a friends only post if you're not comfortable with talking publically about your experiences.

Some rules that you need to follow for the sake of the other members:
1. Please make an introductory post so we know who's reading, and try to post and comment at least occasionally. It helps people feel more able to be open if we know we can trust who's reading.
2. Triggering posts and long entries must be put under an lj-cut
3. No explicit images are allowed since this is not an adult community
4. No dissing at all

carameldusk : I've joined several support communities before and I'm always disappointed by how much the members diss each other and how most of the posts are always ignored. Cries for help fall on deaf ears there, but here I promise I'll listen, because I know how much it hurts to be crying your heart out and having people, who should be supporting you, not care about it.

confrontation : Agreed with cd here, yo. It'd be nice if this was a comm where people felt they could really talk about shit, really be understood - not just shouting into space or to strangers on the internet who at the end of the day don't care what you're going through. It'd be really awesome if this could be a place where people feel they can be themselves and make real friends.

Self-Injury: You are NOT the only one.

Monday, March 1, 2004 is SI Awareness Day.

We don't really aim on making a huge community, instead it would be nice if this can be a community with closely-knit members. Promotion whoring is not needed, but getting your friends to join would be awesome.
